Care and support at home
"It's very important to me that I stay in my own home for as long as possible. The help I receive from the lovely carers at St Monica has played an important part in my being able to do so; they're an absolute blessing."
Barbara Kerr, Clifton
For many people, as care needs increase, managing at home can become more difficult. The Trust recognises, however, that many people would like to remain at home for as long as possible, and that help with the little things can make all the difference. The Trust's care and support service is a specialist service for older people living in their own homes - be that in one of our retirement villages or in the areas that the Trust covers in and around Bristol. The aim of the service is to support independence in the privacy and comfort of people's homes.
Apart from being a friendly face and someone to talk to, personal carers can assist with bathing (with the aid of our bath lift), bed making, light cleaning and domestic duties, shopping and preparing meals. They are also available to help people with getting up in the morning and going to bed at night. Staff are trained to work with individuals to devise a care and support plan that meets their specific needs and although the care team can't help with nursing duties, they are happy, where appropriate, to liaise with doctors, district nurses, health visitors, social services and of course, relatives and friends. On hand to help wherever possible and listen to people's health concerns, they can also help monitor tablets and take people out to the shops or for appointments.
